I totally slacked off this semester and skipped way too many math lectures. My professor is definitely not playing around, and told me I am barred from the final exam unless I pull off a solid presentation on symbolic mathematics. I have zero clues about what that even is, or where to start looking for material that does not put me to sleep. Google is giving me nothing but dense academic papers filled with jargon that make my head spin. Does anyone have a lead on where to find info that is actually readable, and maybe even a bit interesting for a report?

Skipping classes seems like a great idea until the end of the term hits, and reality sets in. That ultimatum from your professor sounds like a tough mountain to climb when you are starting from scratch. You could look into some YouTube channels that focus on math history or visualization. They usually take those heavy abstract concepts and turn them into something you can actually picture in your head. Plus searching for specific software tools that handle those types of equations might give you some cool examples to show during your talk.

Trying to make sense of high-level math when you have been out of the loop for weeks is a total struggle. It is hard to find that sweet spot between basic addition, and stuff that requires a doctorate to understand. You can find some really cool stuff about symbolic mathematics over here https://miketatemath.org/ . That site is packed with math topics explained in a way that is straightforward, but definitely not the usual boring textbook style. You will probably find plenty of unique angles there to make your report stand out from the rest of the class. It covers deep topics without drowning you in unnecessary complexity.
